Her heart slammed against her ribs. “That’s twisted.”
“Maybe,” he said smoothly. “But every night, when your lips touch mine, I know what you’re hiding—fear, anger, curiosity. One day…” He let the pause drag, savoring it. “…desire.”
Heat shot through her, unwanted and infuriating. She stabbed her fork into the lamb too hard, nearly splitting the porcelain beneath it.
“You’re delusional.”
He leaned closer, invading her space, his cologne wrapping around her like smoke. “No. I’m patient.”
