I wrapped my arms around myself to try and press back the tidal wave of horror and sadness at the thought of him being so alone. Shadows began to materialize in the fog. They were blurry at first, mere wisps, unformed, and fleeting. Then they grew, shaped, and darkened until I could almost see them clearly. They were people. People were moving just beyond the curtain. Massive people. Somewhere between six and seven feet tall with a width almost twice the size of an average person. It worked on a few of the younger Toten, but not for Anders. The Schatten were able to pick off about ten of the Toten as they backed away from the castle heading towards the river. They took one into custody and placed him in a circle of containment, where he could not shift into his shadow form. The Toten didn't have real Schatten forms; their shadows were weaker and more visible to the human eye. The fighting continued for hours, as each side gained some ground. Eventually, the 68th prince concedes. The black pit that ate the surrounding planetoids slowly shrinks. The golden light recedes its brightness to conserve power. The darkness continues to become smaller and smaller until it turns into one entity. A handsome man with coal-colored skin appears. His body is almost invisible due to a shadow that eats the light that hits its body. Slowly but surely, the shadow becomes a luxurious modern suit. The 68th prince smiles, releasing smoke out of its mouth. It speaks without the gurgling noise.

"We can see you're not as pretty because we're your parents, Ella. Strangers can't tell you two apart! Enough of this, you're going to switch schools with Jen!" Out of the blue, Jennifer said, "Mom, Dad, Ella's got a point. What if the university uses fingerprint scans for ID checks?" Our parents exchanged anxious glances. "What's the matter, Jen? You're not thinking of backing out, are you?" Jennifer grinned. "No way. However, we've got to figure something out. "Hey, Mom, I heard sulfuric acid can wipe out fingerprints. Maybe we should test it on Ella?" Sulfuric acid?
