I pulled it out, hoping it wasn’t Jonathan checking on me, because I couldn’t talk to him right now. It was a text from an unknown number. Enjoying your morning? This is just the beginning. …D My hands started shaking again. I threw the phone across the room, not caring where it landed. Then I curled up on my bed, still clutching the pillow, and tried to figure out what the hell I was going to do. Because one thing was clear…Daniel was playing a game. And he was enjoying being a psychopath if bastard. I must have fallen asleep at some point because I woke up hours later to my phone ringing.

They had become the new hot issue. I was playing games with my usual buddy at night, and we normally chatted briefly too because he always wanted to go offline after a long and tough duel. I even introduced a few other video games that I thought I was really good in, and he beat me hands down without mercy. That was what had been keeping me busy. I felt really jaded for days, probably because no one was minding me again. It suddenly felt like I was so invisible to everyone, and it made me really lonely.

She has long since gotten used to the fact she was alone in the world, and she knew she probably remain that way for the rest of her life as well. She was resigned to that. She had her work. She had a few friends. She had her computer. It was a side to her; no one knew about. her gaming was her release even though she knew some of her co-workers also played the same game she never said anything to them or asked to join their guilds. "I'm a level fifty-six alpha white wolf for the Lunar Crescent Pack." "Damn, you do play. That's awesome. I'm a level seventy-four black alpha wolf within the Ebony Pack. I'm surprised you play. You don't look like a gamer," he comments as he crosses his arms over his chest and leans back against the railing of the bridge. "I get that a lot. I can't believe you helped make the game. It's one of my favorites. It's the perfect escape from reality." I know I'm not what someone would expect when they think of a gamer, but video games have been a way for me to escape.

Keon sat in the low glow of his gaming room, eyes glued to the monitor as his fingers danced across the keyboard and mouse. On the screen, his avatar weaved through enemy fire, jumping between platforms and dodging obstacles in a futuristic, high-tech battlefield—a game that required not just skill but lightning-fast reflexes.

He was going to try creating a game he made on his own and publish it as an indie game developer on a gaming platform. "You're not that frightened girl who ran into the rain anymore. You're the ghost running this city's underground. Take a breath, Aria."

"Okay, what about Lance? Sensitive new age guy. He recites poetry when he's climaxing. Actually, on second thoughts, he's not a good idea. The last thing you need right now is a sensitive man." "I don't need any man, thank you." "Don't be silly. Listen to me—I know you better than you know yourself. Okay, there's a guy I met about a month ago at the races. He's got a huge gambling problem so he can't buy you dinner, but he will give you a good tip. Or there's Vaughn. Well hung, knows all the best moves and is as supple as a gymnast." Lucy paused.
