Deadly Game
My breathing was heavy, my chest rising and falling in deep, ragged cycles.
Her eyes snapped open. They were wide, dark, and completely glassy with a raw, unadulterated hunger that matched the fire consuming my own veins. The steam curled around her wet face, making her look like a beautiful, lethal phantom.
"I am never letting you go again," I whispered, my voice dropping into a low, ferocious rumble that vibrated through the stone beneath our feet. "Do you hear me, Ari? You belong here. With me. In the light, in the dark, it doesn't matter. I will burn this entire city to the ground before I let another shadow take you from me."
