Jack awoke to the sound of the phone ringing. He cleared his throat, and answered “Hello?” There was static on the line and after a long pause, there was a response. He could faintly hear someone through the static, but the voice seemed far away. He repeated a hello, and the voice responded. “Hello? Jack? Can you hear me?” It sounded like Catherine’s voice but she sounded far away still, like maybe she had the phone upside down or was distracted. Maybe it had been a pocket dial? Catherine continued through the breaking and static “Jack. Can’t….talk...long...I’ve been...Jack? Be careful...love you” Before he could respond, the call ended.

"If it wasn't for your daughter snitching on us, Mona and I could have gotten together earlier! She wouldn't have suffered so much at the hands of that b*tch, Celeste, either. "Mona and I should've reunited in Northrind, but we were forced to be apart for such a long time because of your daughter's doing. Your family deserves to die like this. This is your retribution!" My soul was roaring in the air as bloody, angry tears flowed down my cheeks, but no one could see me. When my eyes opened again, I was reading my class's group chat, which was filled with messages. [Celeste, James is just asking us to apply for community college together as a group so we have some negotiating power with North

To my surprise, he responded with, "I took care of that, after dinner we will go to the mechanic's shop and get it, it is not much but it runs" I knew it would be nothing special, and it wasn't, old beat-up pickup, it will serve its purpose. After getting some homework done I went downstairs to get something to eat, I heard commotion looking out the window I saw Lilly, Sophie, and her brother playing in the yard. It was kinda cute to see. Two weeks have passed and my life was falling into the routine - school, home, gym, homework, sleep, and all over again, this is what poor life feels like. Tomorrow is Monday again and I have no idea for how long I can take this kind of life.

I was left standing alone in the darkness of the night like a clown that no one cared about. I made an appointment for an abortion on my phone. Then, I turned to leave. I'd spent the past 15 years trying and failing to win Benjamin's heart. If that was the case, I didn't want it anymore. It was late at night when I returned to the nearest town. I got a room at a hotel and drifted off into a restless sleep. In the wee hours of the morning, I was jolted awake by the ringing of my phone. My superior at the TV station sounded anxious yet excited. "I heard a 5.3-degree earthquake happened at the old settlement near your location. You need to head there immediately to get the latest scoop!"

I was shopping at the supermarket with a few classmates, talking about throwing a small party. He stood there in the middle of the crowd. The moment he saw me, his eyes lit up as he rushed toward me. I didn't run. I had never owed him anything or done anything wrong. I wasn't the one at fault. Maxwell stopped about three feet away, hesitant to get any closer. The man I remembered as tall and composed now looked thin, haggard, and lifeless. His eyes were pitiful, like a stray dog that had been abandoned. Anyone else might've felt sorry for him, but I wouldn't.

It's right to left now so I'm the one who will sing first. "I close my eyes and I can see, the world's that waiting up for me, that I call my own. Through the dark, through the door. Through there's no one's been before. That I call my home..." I put down my microphone, it's Crystal's turn. "They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy. - I got a call from my father when I was in the VIP lounge at the airport, "Come home, Silas. Horizon Capital happens to need a partner in tech. Everything you've studied and learned will be useful here." I gave a quiet hum of agreement into the phone. As the plane climbed into the night sky, I gave the glittering city outside the window one last look. Seven years… To think I had really ended everything… I flew back to Norcrown City overnight. The moment I got off the plane, I received a text from Ruby: [Silas, where are you? Why is the house completely empty?] For the first time, all I could feel was calmness as I looked at that message.

I was the simple-minded fool that General Adelaide Knight had pulled from a pile of corpses on the battlefield. The poison had been too severe. I survived, but my mind never fully recovered. When people hit me or cursed at me, all I ever did was stare blankly and smile. Adelaide took pity on me. She brought me into her home and refused to let anyone mistreat me. She once said, "Reed may be a fool, but he's my whole life." And like a fool, I believed her. For five years, I followed her everywhere like a shadow. Then Fabian Ortega returned to the capital. He looked so much like me that we could almost have been brothers. He'd been poisoned, and none of the doctors knew how to save him. Hi
