“Just sleep, Tris, please.”
I pressed down. Not hard, not enough to hurt, just enough to stop the thrashing.
Just enough to make him stop shaking.
Just enough to make him sleep.
Just enough to quiet the voice that had taken him from me.
But he struggled again, his hands gripping my arms, eyes wide and wet.
“Adrian,” he whispered. “I love you.”
The words shattered me. My hands stilled for a second. I wanted to stop, to pull back—but he jerked again, and instinct took over. My claws flexed. Just hold him still, just until he stopped fighting, until he slept.
