I Died On Our Anniversary

I make contact the way Riven taught me, the not-trying, the just-looking-and-wanting-to-be-known, and when the thread acknowledges me I reach for the fraying section. The way to repair a fraying thread, I discovered in yesterday morning's lesson, is not to force it. Force makes it worse. The fibers do not respond to pressure. They respond to recognition — to being seen as what they are supposed to be rather than what they have become. You look at the fraying, and you see the whole thread it is part of, the strong thread it was before the fever, and you hold that seeing steady until the fraying remembers what it is. I hold it steady.
