The assistant rushes to Lucille’s side and speaks so softly I can’t hear the words. Lucille snatches the clipboard from them before walking to me and sets it to the side as she works to make an intricate braid in my hair. She tells me, “You have to be perfect, doll. There’s a particular buyer they’re hoping will buy you.” My eyebrows furrow slightly, and she flicks me softly between them as she says, “You’ll get wrinkles and crease your makeup if you keep that up. I only have stuff for touch-ups, and we don’t have time for that with you being a last-minute addition for this group.”

he said with a sly smile, "you're a spoiled brat, aren't you? Always playing with your older brothers." Lucille stopped running and looked at Kevin in confusion. "I'm not spoiled," she replied innocently. "I just like playing with my older brothers." Kevin leaned closer, his smile growing wider. "Then you don't need your big brothers. Do you dare to play alone?" Lucille backed away slightly, feeling uncomfortable. "I can play alone, really," she said in a small voice. "Oh, yeah? Then take this!" Kevin snatched the cloth ball from Lucille's hands and held it high.

"Excuse me, which one is Miss Sonnet?" Sonnet raised her hand. "I am." The man walked in and said respectfully, "Miss Sonnet, this is the autographed photo that Mr. Lucas Mack asked me to deliver to you!" He held an envelope with both hands. "Thank you," Sonnet nodded as she accepted it. She took out a few signed photos from the envelope. It was indeed Lucas'. Each photo was different, but the signature was the same, in his beautiful handwriting. Laurel was immediately excited. "This is Macky's handwriting!"

When he saw Lucille, he gazed at her with admiration and adoration. But the adoration had nothing to do with love, of course—it was merely a fan's love for his idol. Besides, he wouldn't dare to fight with Spencer for her. Seamus couldn't believe his idol had always been around him. He had to find a chance to get her autograph! "Hello, Mrs. Layton," the trio greeted Lucille in tandem. Lucille stopped in her tracks and looked at them before asking, "Is your boss busy?" The trio shook their heads and replied, "No, Mr. Layton isn't busy at the moment."

“In fact, if I wanted a model who looks like her, I’d just sign my front entrance secretary, she certainly looks better than your girl here…her features are more refined and sharper, even though they both share phenotypes and body shape.” Lucille's eyes narrowed comically as she said that last part, almost as though she realised something. I almost laughed. Almost. Sighing, I adjusted my tie. “I’m sure there’s something you can do about this,” I said smoothly. “An editorial spread. A feature. Something.” She studied me for a long moment, lips pursed. “Fine,” she rolled her eyes. “ I’ll see what I can do. Perhaps sports illustrated will give her a page or something and we'll start from there.

And in the end, the marriage had given her nothing worth the price she had paid. Lucille forced herself to let it go and headed upstairs. After sanitizing her hands and changing into her house clothes, she took Lillian from Nancy's arms. Lillian had just woken up. She worked steadily at her bottle, cheeks flushed pink with effort, tiny hands wrapped around it as though it might slip away at any second. Lucille looked at the little girl's face and felt something inside her grow still and warm. She couldn't bear to put her down. Then a message came in from Gwen. It was a photo of designer baby items piled in the hallway outside her old apartment.

At one point, when Adrian stepped out briefly to answer Marcus’s call, Elena’s nerves finally got the better of her. “Um, this might sound silly,” she began, twisting her fingers under the table, “but… could I maybe—just maybe—ask you for an autograph?” Kelvin’s head tilted back as he laughed warmly. “Silly? Elena, people have asked me to sign their arms, their phones, even their shoes. Asking for an autograph is practically polite compared to that.” Her cheeks heated. “I just… I’ve been a fan for years. Your films always—” She stopped herself, worried she sounded too much like a giddy teenager.

I was on my hands and knees, scrubbing the baseboards with a wet cloth when I felt a shadow hover over my shoulder. Lucille stood behind me wearing nothing but a powder blue robe. Her fists were perched on her hips, and her hair was in curlers. A thick powder covered her perfectly contoured face. She, Kimberly, and Astrid were getting ready for the ball along with half of the island. “You’re late! Honestly, can’t you do anything right?”

Getting an autograph doesn't require much effort at all. Lucy still wanted to get up, but Matthew held her back. “Lulu, let me go get the autograph for you. Just sit here and don’t move.” Matthew felt sorry for Lucy, so he instructed the maid to fetch a bottle of massage oil for Lucy so that she could massage her feet. “I’ll go get the autograph, so you stay put right here and don’t go anywhere, okay?” Matthew’s commanding tone silenced any objections Lucy had. She had no choice but to nod and watch him get an autograph from the female singer.

The reception lobby was quiet, but as soon as I rounded the corner, a tall, familiar figure stood up from one of the leather waiting couches. Lucille was wearing a dark leather jacket, dark jeans, and boots, looking sharp and alert. The moment her sharp eyes caught sight of me, a massive smile broke across her face. "Bella!" Lucille called out, stepping across the tile floor with long, confident strides. "Lucille!" We stepped into a tight, warm embrace, laughing as we hugged in the middle of the lobby. After everything we had been through, having her standing inside my company felt surreal and completely right.
