That would make him feel a bit better. Valentine in pain... Eugene briefly smiled at the thought that had suddenly occurred to him. Just thinking about it improved his mood somewhat. Before the complicated problems could ruin his improved mood, Eugene decided to focus his thoughts elsewhere. Right next to him was the book Luca Datero had given him. Romeo and Juliet. Yesterday it was Othello, and the day before, King Lear. The young mafia boss apparently had a fondness for Shakespeare. Tomorrow, he might bring Hamlet or Macbeth.

The sixth sense of a woman who moved among underworld forces was normally inseparable from vigilance. While Vincenzo Corleone was handling business in the study, his personal phone vibrated once. It was an encrypted number with no contact name. When the screen lit up, I caught a glimpse of the message preview. The two words read, "Miss you." Vincenzo reached to turn off the screen almost instantly, his gaze flickering momentarily. Then, he returned to his paperwork, as if nothing happened.

“Read this, and sign it if you want. You’re an adult now, and the Boss of everyone. The decision is yours.” Leo sits on the swivel chair and starts scanning the paper. It is a deal with another mafia. It disinterests him ‘coz there is nothing to be benefited other than owning a piece of land. “Not taking their crappy trap.” He throws the folder on his desk. “I already heard about this in the black market and no one dares to buy this piece of sh*t.” Laura smirks and finishes her glass of wine. “Indeed a Marchetti, no one’s gonna doubt. And of course, Luigino Marchetti’s son.”

He got what was coming to him. Minutes later, Claudia brought me homemade gnocchi and tiramisu, which I ate with relish. I even invited Dante to eat with me. He refused the invite, but I suspected it was because he was already full from swiping some while Claudia cooked. He had crumbs in his beard.

Luigi pulled up at the side and greeted me, “Welcome, Signora. I thought I was supposed to pick you from the restaurant, not the library.” “Well, I had some books I wanted to return,” I lied, entering the back seat. I dropped my bag beside me as I asked him, “How's your work going? Did you see Leonardo today?” Luigi paused as he stared at me through the rearview mirror, “Yes, I did. He also asked me how you were doing and told me to keep a close eye on you.” My heart raced under my chest as I pressed on, “Is that all he said? He didn't say anything else?”

I smiled at him and nodded. “Of course I do, it’s wonderful. But Luigi, my decision has nothing to do with lattes and yachts and offices for my company. It’s about my own personal connections, namely my son. So while I appreciate all the effort, it’s honestly not going to sway me.” Luigi thrust his hands into his pockets and chuckled. “It was that obvious, huh?” “I can read you like a book,” I told him. “And yes, it’s all a bit obvious, especially the book you left beside my bed. What was it called? The Wonders of Italy?”

I poured myself a glass of water and drank it in one go. Alessandro "The Devil" Costello, El Padrino. I shook my head, nope, not going to believe it unless I talk to him myself. I made my way out of the kitchen and went straight to the library. Since I had nothing to do, I settled on reading a book. I surveyed the huge library and finally found a book that seemed interesting enough to read. "Mafia and Mafiosi by Henner Hess" With a book in my hand, I walked back to Alessandro’s seat to read but halted in my steps as I saw him already sitting on it.

“Actually….I didn't… well I haven't.” “You haven't what?” The title I couldn't read it, it wasn't very clear,” I said hoping I was right, it was an old book after all and there was no title on the thick back so maybe it had faded. “Really? Let me see,” he said, stretching his hand towards me. I handed him the book and he opened it to the front page. “Ooh! La Divina Commedia, it's an Italian classic…how couldn't you read this? It's very clear,” he asked, his eyebrows furrowed.
