Paul started the minute that AJ sat down. “I know.” AJ was more than certain that they were not going to find shit. He wasn’t stupid, he knew how to protect himself and his brother. “For now you are in the clear. They have no reason to issue another warrant. They fucked up when they found nothing.” AJ nodded his head. “What do we do about the shipments?” Tristan asked now. “We carry on like normal.” AJ wasn’t going to stop anything. The cops could go fucking die. “Okay…” Tristan was on board with anything that AJ wanted. This was always the case.

Joan took a deep sigh "if it fails it should be your fault, but I still have my plan B." Linda's eyes widened "plan B? What is it all about?" Joan leaned closer "it's a top secret, a very big shock to everyone, if plan A fails, plan B would never ever fail, nevertheless I am still counting on you Linda to do your job well." We call this place, ‘Bibliothèque Blanche’. You’re not allowed to read anything in this, though. You are not qualified yet.” “Then what’s the point of going here?” Fruto really wanted to check the texts here. He got interested with the word “real-life cases”. Unfortunately, they’re not allowed. He instantly felt bitter.

She’d fallen asleep so many times in her clothes. After she was tucked under the covers, I tried to remember everything she’d opened today at the baby shower. If it could all be left in the car until morning, then I’d leave it there. Instead, I decided to bring it all in. I took all of the clothes, toys, and the walker and swing upstairs. Once they were up there, I put away everything that was left: milk, tea, bottles, and anything else.

A deep sob breaks his rambling of excuses. “Of being killed and harvested for organs?” I sneer, my anger taking over the feeling of sadness. “What about the threat of him harveresting me? What if he had decided to sell my virginity and then have me working in the brothel until I was useless? Did any of that occur to you?” “Marri-”

Pathetic. My penthouse is just like a tomb. Of course, expensive, the best of its kind, but cold. Too cold for my liking. Everything exactly the way I left it this morning, which is how I left it yesterday, and the day before. No life, none of importance. I hate it. But I'll prefer this to surrounding myself with fools. My briefcase slips from my hand, hits the marble island with a crack that echoes through the goddamn floor. I loosen my tie. Still uncomfortable, I rip the fucker off completely and throw it on the couch.

Chapter 7: The King’s Gambit The shell was a secret. Leigh kept it tucked in a small velvet pouch, hidden beneath the false bottom of her jewelry case—a case that held no jewels, only lockpicks, a garrote wire, and a vial of distilled nightshade. The irony was not lost on her. The shell, a fragile, beautiful thing, was the most dangerous item in there.

"Son, is there something I should know about? You seem nervous and the panic room indicator went off not too long ago for this room." How? How could I forget that I upgraded the system so that every panic room had a trigger on it? If opened, the room would send a silent notification to Papa and me. "Oh yeah, I was just showing her where to hide in case anything happens and her and baby have to hunker down." Dietrich Shields wasn't anybody's fool and he damn sure wasn't going to made one. "Did you fix your problems like I told you to?" "Yeah, we're working on it. Still a little turbulence but she'll come around. Told her about the maze...."

" She counted in her mind. Yoori closed her eyes, listening to the thumping of her own heart. She smiled, wondering what kind of trick Jas would come up with because he was fond of introducing new tricks every time they got intimate. With her mind busy counting, she walked to the small library adjacent to her office and grabbed the golden box hidden in between the books. With trembling hands, breaking breaths, and eyes full of desire, she unlocked, letting the keys drop on the floor with a clang. She carried it towards the glassy table beside her book shelves, which she used as a dining table whenever she had lunch or dinner in the office, and placed it carefully. "Come one, Jas, why are you
