It was about rebirth. Sienna’s knees nearly buckled. “Oh my God. Jax fired, the bullets sparking off metal. The impact barely slowed it down. It swung a metallic arm, striking him across the chest and sending him crashing into the wall.

Silence meant someone was deciding what to do with him. Then— A sound. Low. Mechanical. Deep enough that he felt it through the floor before he fully heard it. A vibration. A pulse. Metal moving somewhere beyond the walls. The sound grew louder. Closer. Ancient machinery awakening from sleep. His gaze shifted toward the darkness ahead. Chapter 59 KAI'S POV The machine, with a semblance to a cyborg, grumbled as it opened its lid. Freezing air oozed out from within, exposing me back to life. As my chest heaved with its first breath, I clutched the threshold and pulled myself out. Somebody caught me before I could trip. I had nearly forgotten how to walk. Marcellan whispered, "This is some shit lapse, man." My senses were coming back, and thus I laughed at his approach toward the last ritual.
