So I let them think whatever they wanted. Lately though, the lie had started feeling dangerous in a completely new way. Every time he laughed at something I said, or leaned over to point at something on my phone, my body reacted before my brain could catch up. Heat low in my stomach. A pulse between my legs that made me shift in my seat. I had been trying to ignore it, but tonight, with Mom gone, ignoring it felt impossible. We decided on cards with a simple twist. Loser of each hand picked truth or dare. Nothing serious. Just something to pass the time like old times.
