He just sat in the kitchen, staring at the half-empty cup of coffee on the table, watching the steam rise and vanish like his privacy, his control, his peace.
Matt showed up uninvited, holding a folded newspaper.
“They printed it, man,” he said quietly. “They actually printed part of it.”
Liam looked up slowly.
His eyes were hollow, red-rimmed from sleepless nights. “How?”
“Someone leaked it from the postal office. Or the journalist got a copy. It doesn’t matter now.”
He didn’t respond. Just leaned back, jaw tight, heart unraveling.
Matt continued gently, “You need to get ahead of it, Liam. Tell your truth before they twist it again.”
