"You don't want to talk about the book you read?" Gardenia waves an airy hand. "Nah. It was a vampire book. Vampires aren't my thing." "What is your thing?" I ask before I can think better of it. And Gardenia grins, wiggling on her stool until her thigh brushes against mine. "My favorite book we read so far was a mafia one. It was about this complete psychopath who stole the heroine away to his own private island." "And the hero saves her?" Gardenia snorts. "The mafia guy is the hero. It's kind of an edgy book."

I ask him, he had every single book around here, all genres and all kinds. "I like mafia books, want to read this one?" he ask picking one for the two of us, I nodded, taking the book from him, it's called "Monster in his eyes". "Let's begin my little mafia," I say with a smile, I took a seat o the sofa, allowing him to sit next to me, he had his legs laying over my lap, while I read the story about the mafia, about how the boss fell in love with the girl. "The Vitale are asses!" Eliot says, making me roll my eyes, sure, I love a mafia story, but reading about humans who are such a badass as Eliot put it, only made me feel pissed.

He was the almighty Mafia lord, and he shouldn't be attached to anyone. Since this happened already, he would make sure he protects her with his life. Her parents only made it easier for her to finally and legally be his. There was only one threat, Blackie, and his current trip to City G, where his meeting headquarters was, to remove him from human existence. “Is everyone on ground?” he asked. “Yes, boss,” Ryan replied, switching back to professionalism. “Good.” ~ City G ~ “Sir,” a mild calling. “Sir,” louder, and Cedric Huxley turned to the woman and man in front of him.

How did I end up here? From keeping the side of a dangerous mafia lord for three years, to work for a mafia boss as a prey. I wanted to step back, to run, to vanish back into the safety of the world I knew. Victor, the calm, collected man before me—was the same man who had almost killed me once, yet now he spoke as if nothing had happened. And he wasn’t even mentioning Adrian. Not once. Only work. Like we didn't have a history. “Are you in?” he interrupted. His tone left no room for hesitation. Sharp. Precise. Almost terrifyingly calm.

DANTE’S POV Ever since I’d witnessed what my actions could cost my family, and how much damage it would cause that would take time to be cleaned up, I quit. Dear reader, you must be wondering what did I quit, well, the strong, profound and bad ass Dante Moritto quit from being a Mafia. I’d cleared all my boys by the time I’d returned from jail. Behind the cell bars, where I had no contact with the outside world and without power to protect my family from some of the messes I had created. I knew that it was time, time to call in quits. Everything, the drugs, the trafficking, the web, I closed all my accounts, the Great Dante Moritto had retired.

The ledger. My mind flashed back to that rainy afternoon weeks before my engagement, when I’d slipped into my father’s study and found the plain black leather book I wasn’t supposed to see. I’d only opened it for a second, but the entries were seared into me: payments to the Ivanovs, timed to fabricate a debt that never existed; a note in my father’s sharp, slanted handwriting about how the “Ivanov problem” would be solved by “the Moretti wolf.” He hadn’t just sold me to Dante. He had engineered the entire collapse, and used me as the final sacrifice to bury a rival family. The whiskey scent clinging to Dante’s breath suddenly twisted into the stench of betrayal.

I said and went to my truck. I sat in the truck and drove to the hospital.  Hey guys. I updated I hope you like this chapter. Another chapter with another mystery.
