Mal’s chest heaves with sobs as she watches the men take Hunter’s body and toss it into the river like garbage. Once they dispose of Hunter’s body, they turn to where Maleah and I ran. “Find the blonde girl!” One of the men calls out. I look behind me, but there’s nowhere to run and hide. Looking back at a distraught Mal, I make a choice. “Listen, Mal, listen.”

The Alpha and Beta were instantly on their feet, leaving the women to scurry after them. "He's dead! My mate is dead!" The anguished cry reached Ariella as she ran down the hall, but the broad figure of Malachi blocked her from seeing the distraught shewolf out the front. Malachi murmured as he looked at Cian's decapitated body. Since Chase had already taken action, he figured the mayor was likely next in line. Malachi did not linger at the scene. He leaped onto an ancient building. With a few more bounds, he disappeared into the upper Clearwater Town. The reason Chase let Malachi go was that he had noticed something about Malachi. Despite him being a meridian-opening master, he carried no killing intent. It seemed that since entering the secular world, Malachi had not taken a single life. While Chase disdained such a thoroughly good man, he could not help but feel a slight fondness for him.

“But you were lucky. Another few hits from Malachai, and you might not have made it.” I took the glass from her, sipping slowly. My throat was dry, and the cool water was a relief, but I couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling growing in my chest. Malachai had almost killed me, and he was still out there, plotting his next move. Worse, he was hell-bent on finding Valeria. “I’ll be fine,” I muttered, setting the glass down. My voice was hoarse, but steady enough. “Just need to rest.”

Malachi's POV I wake up to find Chloe is gone. I search the room in a panic, thinking about my mother and what she could have planned, so I rush to the door, only wearing my sweatpants. As I’m running down the stairs, I see Marley sitting on the couch. She looks up to me with wide eyes and parted lips. ‘Maybe I should have put on a shirt.’ I think, clearing my throat awkwardly. "Um... Good morning Malachi," Marley says, not looking at my face, but I can see her cheeks are a light shade of pink. "Where is Chloe?" I ask eagerly, getting back to business. Marley shakes her head as if to clear whatever thoughts she was having and points to the door. "She is on the front porch with Colette." S

“Someone’s here.” I looked toward the passage we’d entered from. The air there shimmered — faint ripples like heat waves bending the light. And then, from the distortion, a shape stepped through. Malachai. He looked different — his usually calm expression fractured by urgency. His coat was torn, his eyes glowing faint blue in the Gate’s light. “You two really know how to cause a war.” Vale’s stance softened but didn’t lower. “How did you find us?” “Followed the sound of reality breaking,” Malachai said dryly, then turned to me. “You opened it, didn’t you?”

Jessica said, and Malachi chuckled. “I’ll be back in a week,” Malachi said, as he put his jacket on. “This really sucks, you know. It’s almost Christmas,” Jessica said as he kissed her goodbye. “I’ll bring you something back from Switzerland,” Malachi said and walked out of their bedroom. “It better be something awesome!” Jessica yelled. Malachi drove to Levi’s house and smiled as he caught Kai’s scent the moment he stepped into the garage. Levi had tears in his eyes, and he tried to hide the emotion, but Malachi knew him better than most people.

She was tired and couldn't concentrate any more on the sound of their voice. The next time she regained consciousness, Malachi stood above her. He turned his head slightly to look at her. She was small, smaller than the average girl or lycan, with a head full of curly hair and big wide brown eyes. “Hello Viola. I am Malachi. You will call me Master.
