Aria's POV Elder Marcus lay in the medical wing, his body filled with wounds that told the story of a brutal fight. Vera worked over him with practiced hands, stitching the worst gashes while Kael and I stood nearby. Dante remained chained but present, four guards surrounding him. "Tell us what happened," Kael said after Vera had stabilized the Elder's breathing. "Ambush." Marcus's voice was weak but clear. "Three days out from Riverside. Professional killers, not rogues.
