Markbound

Markbound

Candlelight danced across the red-stained windows, glowing softly as thunder rumbled outside. In the middle of the hall stood a long black table, surrounded by old, tall chairs, each marked with ancient symbols. These chairs had stayed empty for many years. But tonight, all except one were filled. At the head of the table stood Sire Asher, the current master of Nightreign Clan. He did not speak right away. He didn’t need to. The elders knew why they were there. And when the final door sealed shut behind the last to arrive, Asher finally raised his gaze.

Marked

Marked

“How did you get this?” “I’ve…always had it,” I said breathlessly, my excitement growing. “This is the mark of an ancient coven. Of Jerusalem. A secret coven, one of extreme power. One rumored to have relations with…wolves. And rumored to not even exist. How do you own this?” I felt my heart pounding. “I….don’t know. I was told it was my father’s. I…hadn’t even thought of it.” He turned it over gently, looking at the back. His eyes opened wide.

Frequently Asked Questions

P.C. Cast's the author behind the 'House of Night' series, which is basically a vampire school saga but with a mythological twist I haven't seen anywhere else. It's co-written with her daughter Kristin, which explains the mother-daughter dynamic feeling so spot-on in the books. Zoey Redbird's whole journey from a regular teen to a fledgling vampyre at the Tulsa House of Night kept me reading way past my bedtime more nights than I'd admit.

Honestly, I bounced off some of her later stuff—the Goddess Summoning series felt a bit formulaic for my taste—but 'Goddess of the Rose' had a cool take on the Beauty and the Beast myth. 'House of Night' is definitely her flagship, and books like 'Marked' and 'Betrayed' really nail that early-2000s paranormal romance vibe. The worldbuilding with the vampyre goddess Nyx and all the different elements they brought in gave it more depth than a lot of YA at the time. Some of the dialogue hasn't aged perfectly, but I still get a kick out of the sheer drama of it all.
