The terror she'd barely managed to suppress came flooding back into her eyes.
Alice lowered her gaze, hiding the smugness beneath her lashes, her voice growing even more pitiful.
"It's all my fault. Mom, please don't start hating me, okay? I only have you now…"
She threw herself into my mother's arms, trembling like a leaf.
