“I don’t… remember that.”
The memories were blurred, clouded with emotion, grief, and panic. Maybe I did. Maybe I didn’t. It didn’t matter.
I looked away, chest tightening. “So,” I said, pressing the words out carefully, “what’s your plan?”
I lifted my chin, forcing myself to meet his gaze. “Are you breaking up with me?”
His brows drew together. He stepped forward—but I raised a hand, halting him.
“You can’t date a murderer,” I said. “Especially one who killed her own mother.”
