Shinjuku, Tokyo – Midnight. Neon lights flickered over the dark alleyways, casting eerie glows on the damp pavement. The air was thick with the scent of alcohol, cigarettes, and blood—a silent witness to the underbelly of the city. Inside a small, hidden club buried in the depths of a narrow backstreet, a man sat in the corner, his body marked with fresh wounds, his face shadowed beneath the brim of his cap.

he said, drinking me up from head to toe and his lips twitching like he had more to say but didn’t, instead he walked ahead of me and I followed sheepishly behind him. When we arrived at the club, the neon lights flashed brightly above us, casting an electric glow over the entrance. Music pulsed from inside, vibrating through the walls. It wasn’t news that most of the Dons in Algreen Cove owned midnight clubs or exclusive bars which was really just a front to clean illegal money.

“Because whoever planted that bug might try again. And they’ll expect us to hide you. So instead… we bring you to the front line.” Elena swallowed. “Am I bait?” Gabriel grinned. “Dressed bait. With lip gloss, if we’re lucky.” Alessio turned. “Let’s go. The club’s already open.” ⸻ Midnight. They entered the underground club through the back. It didn’t smell like smoke or alcohol. It smelled like sin. Low lighting. Walls pulsing with deep red and violet hues. Music thrumming like a heartbeat. The place wasn’t public—it was private. Dangerous. A sanctuary for criminals too rich to die.

The club at midnight has its own weather. When the last guest’s perfume fades and the ice melts down to clear islands in the sink, Elysium exhales. The chandeliers rest their glitter. The leather breathes. Even the monitors in the control room lower their volume to a whisper-blue pulse. You can hear the building think.

The villain will surely go mad seeing her body. [This blind date of hers is quite good-looking, too. No wonder the villain's been jealous for so long.] [Why are there so many people siding with the villain? How disgusting! She deserves her death! I really want to see the hero taking the villain down!] When I woke up once more, it was back to midnight again. The moonlight shone dimly into the lounge as my hand was on the window latch, about to open the window. [Don't open the window! There's no cat outside! It's a serial killer!]

And I still didn’t know if I wanted to run from it—or run straight into it. Rachel nudged me with her elbow as I wiped down the camera lenses. “Hey. Let’s go to Masquerade tonight.” I blinked. “What?” “You heard me. Club night. Girls, guys, masks, secrets. Let’s gooo.” Adam looked up from the candy jar. “What’s Masquerade?” Rachel grinned wickedly. “Only the hottest underground club in the city. Masked entry only. Total anonymity. You can dance with a stranger and never know their name.”

Something about a bridge being nearby is the only thing I can remember. Suddenly, the world swirls and I’m standing on that bridge with Kendric. “I fell off the cliff and then ended up here. This was our third life, for sure.” Kendric looks over at me with a confused expression. “Are you seeing this too?” A ticking clock sounds from somewhere nearby and I look around to see where it’s coming from. “Do you hear that?” A voice comes out of nowhere from somewhere above us. “Midnight is coming. Run while you can.”

A breath of relief escaped my lips as I flicked on the small light. I couldn't sleep and decided to come to the sitting room. I struggled until I reached the TV and put it on, a rush of relief flooded through me. The cool, bright light dispelled the shadows of the dark sitting room, revealing the nearest couch. "Finally!" I whispered, grinning as I picked up the remote and navigated until I got to a station I liked. I sat on the couch watching the TV and the scenes were that of nude men and women. I imagined Liam coming to the sitting room to meet me and trying to get his fingers through my night dress. I shrugged my shoulders,

Chapter One The notification goes live at 12:03 a.m. Most people don’t notice it right away. Midnight notifications are easy to ignore—another bored scroll, another face glowing in the dark. But for the ones who do click, the screen opens to something oddly quiet. No music. No filter. No bright smile. Just Lila Monroe, framed too close, her face pale in the bluish light of her phone. The familiar background of her bedroom looks different tonight—messier, shadows stretching too long across the walls. Her hair is pulled back like she’s been running her hands through it too many times.

my stomach turned at the thought. “Im afraid it is real. There is a rival clan that is trying to unleash a demon that is powerful enough to consume the entire planet. It’s been locked away for centuries, its anger almost destroyed the human race the last time it got out of its cage. The rivals have unlocked a door to the underworld and demons have been slipping through the crack” he said. “What does any of this have to do with me?” I asked.
