The corners of her mouth curved into a smile that didn’t reach her eyes—cold, calculating, almost amused.
My mind reeled, a storm of confusion and fragile hope crashing through me. Despite the chaos, instinct took over. I twisted against the coarse ropes biting into my wrists and ankles, the fibers digging deeper into my skin with every desperate movement.
“Please,” I begged, my voice cracking. “Remove the rope from my hands. I can’t feel my fingers anymore.”
