Every shift. Every adjustment. And when they connected. it wasn’t the same as when I had connected with either of them. It was… uneven. Imperfect. Different. “They don’t understand each other,” I said. “No.” “Not fully.” “No.” There was hesitation. Misalignment. Moments where their patterns almost collapsed into confusion. before pulling back. Adjusting. Trying again. My chest tightened. “This is harder for them.” “Yes.” “Because they don’t share context.” “Yes.”

Just firmly. Vale held up a small tablet. “Arden. Your attendance check did not scan earlier. I need you to confirm your ID.” My heartbeat jumped. Ronan’s voice came low. “He already scanned this morning.” “The system shows an error,” Vale replied. I swallowed. “What kind of error.” “A mismatch,” Vale said. My body went cold. Ronan’s jaw tightened. “What mismatch.” Vale looked at him, calm as always. “Probably a glitch. I just need him to confirm his print.”

He held two coffees. "I'm not squinting," Liam said, not looking up. "I'm analyzing." "You're analyzing a rounding error," Marcus said, setting a cup on the desk. "Claire told me.
