We do not need it anymore this morning. The sunlight is enough.

Sol POV I smiled slowly. There was sunlight. And with sunlight— I could fight back. The realization settled inside me instantly, sharp and certain enough that the frozen flame beneath my skin reacted immediately. The faint sunlight filtering down the staircase at the end of the corridor barely illuminated anything, only thin rays slipping through cracks above, but it was enough. Enough for me. I closed my eyes briefly and reached toward it instinctively. Toward warmth. Toward light. Toward the part of my power I had barely begun understanding.

She was angry. Suddenly the sky parted and a light shone through. The entire neighborhood turned bright as if the sun had just come up. No, this can't be right. I calculated my time wisely. There were still at least six hours left until sunrise, so it was supposed to be dark out here for my own convenience. But I was proven wrong as the warm sunlight hit my skin. Or, in my case, a scorching hot ray of sunshine that burned. Smoke started to come out of the drider as the sunlight hit him directly too. He started sizzling like a shrimp on a skillet. I looked at Analyn, and my suspicion was confirmed. It was her! She was manipulating the daylight. How the hell...

But today, there is sunlight. And that is enough.

Kemi’s voice was the first thing that broke through the static. I blinked against a sudden, blinding spike of gold. It wasn't the artificial blue light of a cartel quarantine field or the violent violet of a data-surge. It was the sun—a real, unfiltered sunrise breaking over the Lagos-Aethelgard harbor, painting the oil-slick waters in brilliant shades of amber, copper, and rose.

Right now I didn’t even care that all the lights in the house were on. It was a thirty minute drive to Theodore’s. The ride was slow and quiet. We were all lost in our thoughts. The dull sound of the tires on the tarmac and the smooth rev of the engine were the only sound that dominated the car through out the entire ride. In a distance, the mansion that hosted most members of the coven appeared. It was a magnificent view and no matter how upset I was I had to appreciate the view. all the lights in the mansion were turned on. I guess they stayed up for me. I feel so special. Not.

Java, 1586 The wind howled across the coast. The sun blazed from the peak of a sharp blue sky, while massive waves exploded against the black rocks lining Karang Bendan's shoreline. On a stretch of smooth sand, two men stood facing each other, separated by little more than eight feet.

My mother shot me a warning glare. And then the screen lit up. Photos and videos started playing one after another. Every single one showed what I'd been through. Electroshock. Medication. Bright white lamps shining in my eyes, trying to make me forget Emily.

She told him with a smile. He chuckled and looked up. He saw the light blue on the ceiling and got an idea. “What about solar censored light bulbs?” He asked her. “Oh, sounds interesting. Tell me more.” She told him. “It would be like an ordinary light bulb powered by solar energy and it can detect when it’s light or dark so it can turn on when it is needed and turn off when it’s not. We can also install some voice recognition too. And if you want, we can add more features to it.” He told her.
