I muttered, staring at the chipped floor tiles.
Frankie barked out a laugh, a genuine, belly-aching laugh that echoed through the lobby. "It is!" he roared, clapping his hands. "Marriage ain't the final destination, Missy. It's just a pit stop on the journey. Can't people be together without it? Of course, they can! Love ain't about fancy rings and vows, it's about sharing a plate of pasta, laughing till your sides hurt, and holding hands through the storm."
He paused, his eyes softening. "That kid, he might have been scared. Scared of how much he loved you, scared of letting his guard down. Love makes even the toughest men insecure, you know. It exposes their soft underbelly."
