When the Citadel manor felt that everything was going their way, the Headmaster pulled out one of the Black Order’s newest inventions. With a smirking, cold dominant voice, he spoke on the intercom, “We don’t have any vervain for the vampires, but that doesn’t matter with the use of our new weapon, all of them will kneel.” He declared and soon activated the death drones. The drones flew in every direction. They swarm like flies, hundreds of them looking for a pack of wolves to unleash their deadly silver gas on them.

Far above, the black needle kept coming—slow, but heavy, and terrifying. “Drones!” Bianca pointed toward the canyon. Thousands of drones that had been on their tail suddenly changed course. They shot up into the sky, like bugs drawn to a lamp. One by one, they hit a certain height, dissolved into gray dust, and drifted into the purple clouds. “They’re taking it all back,” David breathed, peering through cracked glasses. “Everything that came from the Source—they’re pulling it home.” Then, a beam of white light shot down from the black needle. It didn’t hit the mountain. It hit the city, way off in the distance.

Her voice is a dry, useless rasp. Elias doesn’t even look at her.
