The women grumbled, their eyes darting between Caleb’s protective stance and my defiant glare. The grandmother spat on the floor, not at me, but as a sign of begrudging acceptance. They backed out, the door slamming shut behind them, leaving the apartment echoing with the fading sound of their Russian curses.
I turned to him, my jaw dropping. "I am not your wife, Caleb. I am your ex-wife. The papers were filed months ago. That sham is over and that is something I’ll never live to experience again."
