Just like he had known about that limited-edition paintbrush I had wanted once. Jacob stood a little behind him, eyes already wet. The sight of my stubborn boy with tears streaming down his face broke something wide open inside me. I burst into tears too, the kind I had been fighting for so long. Thank the Goddess I had kept my makeup light. These weren’t the bitter tears of the past; these were healing, joyful tears that washed away years of pain. I let myself bask in it all and reminded myself that I really deserved this, just like Flynn had said.

Then the two of them turned and walked off, leaving me on the sidewalk with bruised pride and an arm that was definitely gonna turn purple. I stood slowly, brushing off my clothes, and forced a smile back on my face. I wasn’t going to let them see me broken. Not anymore. They had their little moment, but their time was coming. One day, Richard would be the one scrubbing floors. I turned to head back inside, but then I heard my name. “Ava.”

Fresh tears spilled from my eyes. “I am sorry, Ade. It’s all my fault.” I whispered and closed my eyes to allow the tears to fall.

His blue eyes bore into mine as he asked with a warm tone. I let out an uneven breath and looked at the mug as I gripped it tightly. After some seconds, I release my grip and stared at him with a sad smile. "I'm not gonna lie. It hurts so bad," as I spoke tears flowed from the corners of my eyes but I continued, "I have faith and I know it'll get better. I'll get better, I just need time that's all," I said with determination. I dropped my mug on the table and wiped the stray tears from my face. Why am I suddenly crying?

Tears welled up in my eyes, escaping in a steady stream that traced a path down my dampened cheeks. The trail of moisture clung to my lashes before finally succumbing to gravity, falling silently to the ground. "Please, Lucious, I didn't intend for any of this. I'm so sorry… I… I regret everything," I pleaded through my tears, my voice trembling with raw feeling. The pain of seeing him turn away and the weight of his anger had become too much for me to bear. It was as if my heart was breaking over and over again. "Lucious…," I groaned, my desperation unabated, determined not to stop until he found it in his heart to forgive me.

" And just like that— I broke. Tears spilled from my eyes before I could stop them. For the first time in forever, I didn’t feel alone. I finally belonged.

I wiped them off with the back of my palm and chuckled happily. This time around, my smile and laughter came from the depth of my heart. “Wow,” I heard Syrus whisper quietly.

I felt relieved! I smiled, wiping my solitary tear from my left eye that still found its way to come out somehow. However, it was my happy tears, not the other way around. Finally.

I shut my eyes as one tear dropped onto the blanket. This time, I wasn't turning back.
