Kit helped by using his remaining silver sensitivity to map out a safe path. Arriving at the base of the tower, they were met by a chilling sight. Thousands of people were gathered, hands raised, contributing their stream of emotions, cleansed of all pain, to a giant silver tree growing inside the tower. The tree was transparent, shimmering, and within its trunk, the figure of Luna could be seen meditating, merged with the network’s core. "Luna!" Siron called out. "Come out! We need to talk!" The figure inside the tree opened its eyes. Luna floated out of the trunk, her feet never touching the ground. Her face was sorrowful.

“This is the third tree.” Wolves stared. “What is it?” Dara asked. “The Both Tree,” Suri said. “Not white. Not pink. Both. Growing together.” She planted it in the center. Watered it with her blood and Dara’s and the pup’s. For a day, nothing happened. On day 2, the tree grew 3 feet. On day 3, 10 feet. On day 4, its branches covered the Circle. And where its shade fell, something strange happened.
