Empty bottles littered the counter, remnants of nights spent trying to drown thoughts that refused to sink. His phone lay facedown beside him, buzzing occasionally with messages he didn't read.
His thoughts spiraled in uneven circles, chasing questions that had no comfortable answers.
"What happens after?" he asked suddenly when Elliot came in later that night, the door closing with a heavy click.
Elliot paused, jacket still on, keys in hand. "After what?"
"After she falls," Bosco said, his voice hollow. "After Jack gets what he wants. Where does that leave us?"
