Each of them was carrying a large bowl of fire noodles in two hands. Yric stared at the noodles which were blazing in red sauce. He couldn’t help to look back at his friends in worry. Noah met his eyes as his friend raised both of his fists now to wish him luck while Vivian drew a smile on her lips with her fingers to boost him.

The return line slowed. The register backups were mostly resolved. The fondue pot incident faded into store legend. In the back stockroom, Brenda was checking incoming delivery against inventory logs when Marcus found her again—this time holding two water bottles and a container of leftover fries from the food court next door.
