Anna This motel is a far cry from the Ritz, but the plumbing works just fine, and after a long, hot shower, I’m feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. I swap my dusty outfit for some soft pajamas and exit the bathroom. Asher’s seated at the desk, totally absorbed with his computer. Jake lounges on one of the two beds, idly flipping through the motel’s advertised “350 channels of satellite TV!” All of them, it seems, are garbage.

"Tuxedos in Queens on a Tuesday night." "Wednesday," Cale corrected automatically. "It is past midnight." "Right. Wednesday." Elion looked around. Down the block, a neon sign buzzed. STARLITE MOTEL. VACANCY. It looked cheap. It looked dirty. It looked perfect. "There," Elion pointed. "That establishment has a one-star rating," Cale said. "Structural maintenance is likely poor." "It has a door with a lock. That's all we need." They walked to the motel. It was a slow, agonizing process. Martinez's motel, all of us knowing we were probably walking into exactly the situation Vanessa wanted us in. But we could not leave Mrs. Martinez to face her daughter alone. When we pulled into the motel parking lot, everything looked normal. Lights on in the office, a few cars parked outside rooms, the usual late-night quiet of a budget motel. Too normal. Alex parked near the office and we all got out together. The front door was unlocked, which was unusual for this time of night. We found Mrs. Martinez sitting behind the desk, her face pale but composed. And sitting across from her, looking like she had never left, was Vanessa Martinez.

“We just need a place to rest. Somewhere quiet.” Quiet. That sounded nice. I hadn’t realized how badly I wanted silence until he said it. Inside the motel, everything looked like it hadn’t been touched since the early 2000s. Mismatched floral wallpaper, an old vending machine with candy bars I didn’t recognize anymore, and a sleepy-looking man behind the front desk who didn’t even blink when Ethan signed in using a fake name. Room 6. The key was heavy and cold in my palm, the little plastic tag dangling with a chipped number on it.

The cab turned off the main avenue and slowed. “This area’s quieter,” the driver said. “You sure you wanna stay here?” “Yes.” My voice sounded flat. “Here’s fine.” He stopped in front of a narrow building with a flickering sign: Haven Motel Brick walls, one narrow awning, a man smoking out front. Perfect. Invisible.

I desperately need a bed to crash into. ‘Tomorrow, 8 a.m.,’ the old man at the reception says and hands over the keys. We go up the rickety stairs of the old motel and reach our room. Everything is falling apart—the stairs, the doors, the walls. It’s a motel where truck drivers spend their nights and hence it’s at a bare minimum.

The restaurant usually opens by 7:30AM, it would be a very long time but I have no choice. I heard a slight movement, I grew scared, I thought this place was unnoticeable, the movement was getting closer....what could be moving at this time of the night, no scrap that, this time of the day. It got closer, oh god please save me.... "Are you awake"I heard Miss Lauretta's voice, I heaved a sigh of relief. "Yes Miss Lauretta"I spoke back in a rush "You are an early riser...."she paused for a while before she spoke"Natasha..".

After only twenty minutes I was a NCC I got out stepping inside. "Mr. Williams your meeting is on the 70th floor," the receptionist informed me the moment I stepped in front her desk I nodded walking to the elevator tapping the 70th floor. "Tevin Graham," I heard a male voice say. I looked to my right to see a man walking over to me.
