Was looking up some older fantasy stuff and stumbled across 'Dilan Milea' again. Reminds me a lot of those classic hero's journey narratives, honestly. It follows Dilan, who starts as this fairly ordinary village kid until he finds out he's got some kind of ancient magical lineage. The plot kicks off when this dark cult, I think they're called the Umbral Cabal or something like that, tries to wipe out his bloodline. He goes on the run with a few companions, trying to stay alive while figuring out the scope of his own power.
A huge chunk of the middle is his training with various mentors across the realm, which I remember being a bit slow at points. The main driving force is his pursuit of the 'Crimson Phoenix,' a legendary artifact that's the only thing capable of stopping a looming invasion from the Shadowlands. The last act is a pretty massive battle, with some decent twists about his real parentage and the true nature of the artifact. It's a solid, straightforward epic fantasy if you're into that. The romance subplot with the healer felt a little tagged on, though.
