He got out of the car and went to help Miesa out of the car as she was practically dancing on her seat in excitement which made him laugh. “You coming Ellie?”. He asked her. “Sure.” She got out and closed the door then followed Miesa into the ice cream shop. “What will you have sweetie?”. Ellie asked her when they got to the counter. “Hmmn..there are so many flavors to choose from.” Miesa said. “You can have just one.” Ellie said firmly. “Okay I’ll have rocky road then.” She said in defeat. “One rocky road and..” “Won’t you order for Cesar?”. Miesa interrupted her.

She grinned. "And you, Alessandra? What do you want?" "Um... Neapolitan ice-cream, please," Her smile mirrored her sister's. "And you, Mason?" "He's not a fan of ice-cream," Maya said. "He likes any kind of chocolate bar, though." "Can you wait here while we get ice-cream?" I asked the teacher. With a winsome smile sent her way, she agreed. Taking Maya's hand, Mason and Alessandra followed suit, and we made our way to the first floor for ice-cream, marking the best day of my life.

Maya’s POV The ice cream shop was too bright. Sunlight poured in through the wide glass windows, bouncing off white tables and pastel-colored chairs, turning everything cheerful and soft in a way that made my skin crawl. Children’s laughter rang out in sharp bursts, spoons clinking against ceramic bowls, the bell above the door chiming every few seconds as people came and went. It smelled like sugar and vanilla and waffle cones, a smell that once meant comfort, now sitting heavy in my stomach.
