He lowered his weapon slowly, surrendering himself at that one moment. The mysterious man laughed, wild and cruel, seeing Vincenzo helpless. “The mafia king was brought to his knees because of a woman,” the man mocked. The man pulled a swift knife from his pocket. Seraphina froze, her eyes widened with horror, unable to move. Just before the blade touched her skin, Vincenzo lunged. He shoved Seraphina back, grabbed the knife by its sharp tip, blood spilling instantly. His teeth clenched, and his face twisted with pain, but he didn’t let go. In one swift move, he reversed the knife and stabbed it deep into the man’s stomach. The attacker dropped with a scream, crumpling to the floor.

“Please. Send them back tonight and then stay out of my way and I'd stay out of yours. We’ll give you what you want, the lions heart, everything. But send your men back tonight.” He watched me for a long moment, that mafia king mask firmly in place. Then he reached for his phone. I stood there while he made the call, one clipped sentence. His man answered immediately. When he hung up, he looked at me again. “They’re moving back to the front of the property.” I nodded once. “Thank you.”
