"Of some sort. Yes." Once more we stayed in silence. Closing my eyes I listened to the sounds through the pack home. I could hear Zoey giggling in the living room with Joey. I smiled as my heart settled knowing they were okay and most likely they hadn't seen what happened. Straining my ears I could hear Marina talking to a man outside the house. "Remember when Marina was knocked out and I promised I'd tell you everything when she woke up?" Nodding I urged him to go on.

March grabbed my upper arm and hauled me out of my seat. I tried to hide the pain that shot through my arm, but a soft groan escaped me. I felt my feet briefly leave the ground as he pulled me toward the door. The humid breeze outside sucked the unsteady breath from my lungs. Marcus let go of my arm and I stumbled against the outside railing leading up to the door. “Who is the Marine,” he spat. I straightened, but didn’t have a chance to answer when Marcus tumbled forward over the railing, landing on the gravel. Madden stood at the door. “Get in your vehicle, we’re leaving.”

remarked Marina, trying to raise questions in my mind. "Stop obsessing over me and live your own life," I advised, tired of her never-ending pursuit. Marina, however, was undeterred; she took my hand and wrapped it around her neck, daring me to touch her. "You'll regret provoking me," I cautioned, hoping to persuade her otherwise. "Will she give her life for you? I can," her voice was sorrowful, and her eyes begged for my attention. "This is madness," I muttered as I took my hand off her neck.

When I arrived at the Gilmore estate, Erik was standing at the gate, clutching Audrey's hand. The two of them sized me up with mocking eyes. "Tsk, tsk… You say you won't choose me, but you're scared something might go wrong at the bonding ceremony in two days, huh?" Erik sneered. "So you had your parents pressure me into marking you during the engagement party instead? "You plan to get marked early so you won't have to worry about any last-minute surprises, huh? Elsa, I actually thought you had a backbone, that you might really refuse to be my mate. But turns out, all those harsh words of yours were just empty bluffs."

White-hot pain shot through my side like fire, and I sucked in a ragged breath that felt like glass cutting through my lungs. “You don’t get to threaten me,” Lane seethed, his voice raw now, no longer the calm detective but a man barely holding back his rage. “Not after everything. Not after Maria.” That name. It rang a bell. Barely. I squinted up at him, blinking blood out of my eyes. “Maria?” I rasped.

Nina held on to Marvin the entire night. Nick had to stay in a corner. Any simple movement caught by Nina ended up with her sending him deathly glares. He couldn't risk being the cause of an argument. Nina is capable of keeping her emotions in check. But one hellish dinner evening proved she was also capable of doing otherwise.

The comments were still flashing nonstop. Before I could sort out my thoughts, a low groan rose from beneath me. A moment later, Brian Janson’s voice came through. He sounded drunk, embarrassed, and annoyed. “Get off.” The comments went wild again: [Ohhh. “Get off,” huh? Afraid the villainess will notice that tent you’re pitching?] [Cold water is not saving you tonight!] [Nooo. He is tainted. How can the male lead feel desire for anyone who is not the heroine!]

Before I could pounder much more, the scenary break once again and I return into the dark corner. I saw Lady Marina in front of me turning much paler than before. She still have her signature resting bitch face which was very intimidating but with her pale face she looks so weak and fragile. She look at me seriously and said, “you better stop the unnecessary pity nor sympathy. You should be much worried about yourself. And I am not here to comfort you nor care about your morality.”

“Um, yeah, but it’s all settled now, I know, but that doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten about you. How about we get out of here?” He said, placing his hands on her hips as he leaned closer and winks, and then there was a major scuff and huff that pushed him away from her. Standing between them was another girl who looked more than insulted as she splashed her drink on Bennett’s face, and Sadie gasped. “Oh my God, Morena, “no, you’re a liar. Bennett, stay away from me,” Marina said, and Bennett rolled his eyes. “I’m sorry about that, but I have to clean up.”
