Jackie's phone slid out of his hand and fell to the ground with a thud. He stared at the kissing scene on the screen, then at the guests' faces. The erstwhile partners who raised a toast earlier took a step back. The whispers in the corner were the first to break the silence, and whispers turned into roars. "He crossed the Olivieros? Is he mad?" "A 750-million-dollar investment? Yeah, right. It's going to kill him." "He's deep in debt, and his partners are pulling out. His company's going bankrupt. He's done for."

Morgan stiffened. After a long silence, tears started flowing down his face. He looked at me woefully. "A lifetime is a long time. Can you be sure that Damien won't lose his way? I've already changed. Could you give me another shot, please?" He was making himself out to be very lowly, but I was unmoved. When one loved another, one couldn't bear to see them hurt and sad. But when one no longer loved that person, it didn't matter how hurt they were.
