KAYE’S POV The first scream ripped through the medical wing so sharply it felt like the walls themselves flinched. I spun toward the sound just in time to see one of the dark masses launch itself into the air and land on a healer’s ankle. It burrowed through her skin in a rush of movement, disappearing beneath the surface as the healer collapsed, clawing at her leg in terror. Two more masses scurried across the tile floor, splitting each time they hit a surface. In seconds we had seven. Then ten. Then more.

"She's a ghost" The nurses screamed as I yawned, my eyes heavy. I wondered if I was truly a ghost since I never believed them to be real. "Why are you all scared?" I asked innocently and they ran to call who I assumed to be the doctor. He came back into the room, a shocked expression on his face. "She is alive" The doctor said and I shook my head in denial. "No I'm a ghost" I uttered softly and walked towards them, wondering if I could walk through the wall because of the stories I heard about ghosts.

But they all felt so fucking real. Jesus! The thought of having sex with a ghost made me sick all over. My stomach knotted as a full-blown terror took root. A fever ran down my body and my skin gallop with goose pimples. "Do you see her?" his question brought me back to reality. I nodded slowly. "So those times I see you talking to yourself, it is her you are talking to?" I motioned. "Jesus!" he exclaimed. "You need deliverance with serious prayers oh!"

A hospital as sophisticated as their had no reports and no surveillance. I noticed a lot when I entered there, desperation can do that to a man sometimes. The nurse who stayed on duty looked like she had just seen a ghost when I asked her question about the accident. Something was definitely on her mind but she could not bring herself to say it so she just kept looking at me debating if she should say something or not. There was hesitation in her eyes before she closed her system fully and told me that her shift was over. I knew exactly what she meant by that. Someone had buried everything that seemed like evidence.

“She’s seen what’s under that man’s shirts. Let the girl live.” I blinked. “I—I’m not—” I raised my hands in surrender. “Just to be clear, I’m not the missus or the girlfriend or—anything. I’m just the nurse.” They all giggled like schoolgirls. One of them leaned forward, eyes gleaming. “Then what was that sound we heard two nights ago, eh bella? That was no scream from getting a shot.” My face caught fire. “I—I—what—” The elder one, gray hair in a tight bun, chuckled. “Don’t worry. We like you better than the last missus.”

He opens it wide and motions us into an empty exam room. “Beta, Doctor Tanaka can come and talk to you if you need her.” The nurse hands me some scrubs. “Don’t trust her.” Ghost stalks around my mind. My skin prickles as he comes forward. “Where’s my mate?” He snarls and grabs her wrist. Reggie grabs my wrist in return and lets his claws dig into me. “Ghost, let her go. We’re trying to get you and Milo to your mate. You need to chill the fuck out first.”

I could vaguely hear the nurse exclaiming, "Why are you running away? You shouldn't do that when you're about to give birth! What's wrong with you?" It was the ghost mother! Surprisingly, she had hidden herself in the obstetrics department. The people around her probably assumed that she was just a regular pregnant woman because of her swollen stomach, so they didn't suspect a thing when she wandered around. I would have never found her if I had stuck to my original idea of searching for her in the places where the negative energy was the strongest. I stiffened, whipping my head toward the door as the sound of frenzied footsteps echoed down the corridor. Ryan stood beside me, alert, eyes narrowed. “What the hell is happening?” Before I could respond, the door burst open and a nurse stumbled in. Her scrubs were stained, her hands shaking. The moment her eyes met mine, her face turned white as death. Her lips trembled, and she looked like she’d seen a ghost. I stepped forward, voice firm. “What’s going on?” She didn’t answer. Didn’t speak. She just kept trembling like a leaf in a storm, eyes wide, mouth slightly parted.

Nicholas and I were very surprised, because how could there be a coffin in the hospital storeroom, it should still be usable and feasible. "Is there a body in there?" asked Nicholas in a silly way that made the nurse laugh immediately. "Let's see," the nurse said as she opened the chest, "Oh yes, my name is Geralda," she continued. And when the chest was opened, it was beyond our expectations. There was no body inside, it was empty. It was like watching a comedy show. This woman, was she really joking? Playing with the psychological side of both of us? Or was she mentally ill?

They claimed the moral high ground and accepted gratitude for it. Blood surged up again. I coughed, and red splattered across the floor. Inside the ward, Amber shrieked, "Oh my god, what's happening? I can't breathe." She gasped and cried out, "Is this hospital haunted? Where is Viola? Nelson, hurry and drag her back in. If there's a ghost, let it take her life instead." Nelson grabbed me under the arms and hauled me back onto the bed. Right on cue, the nurse arrived for rounds. She checked my vitals, frowned, and pushed a painkiller into my IV.
