He raised our hands, fingers intertwined. “This is my Luna. Sienna Hart of the Iron Grove line. She stands beside me now by choice, not obligation.” The wind howled. Then — something shattered. A stone pillar at the edge of the courtyard cracked with a thunderous snap. Gasps erupted. All eyes turned to Caleb, who had stepped forward, arms relaxed, eyes glowing with a fierce golden brilliance.

Marco said, swiveling toward Nora with a warm smile. Nora pulled her fingers out of the soaking bowl and held them out obligingly, already eyeing the glittery pink polish on the table. Marco took her small hands in his and studied them for a moment, tilting them this way and that. “Ah,” he said, frowning slightly. “She has fan-shaped nails.” I looked up. “Sorry?” “Fan-shaped.” He turned Nora’s fingers toward me. “See how the nail spreads a little at the tip? It’s a structural thing. We should correct the shape before we apply the polish.”

My stubborn streak was a mile wide. There had been a flurry of activity when I first arrived at Stearns and Wilkes, but once I'd answered the calls, greeted the few people who stopped by to pick things up or drop them off, I was finally able to focus on my pitiful nails. I cut them all down to match the broken length, filed them, and buffed them until they were perfect, and then dug the OPI, "Pen & Pink," from my bag.

I respond. We were all a lot chattier while getting our nails done. I was nervous about having long nails and not being able to do anything with my hands because I’m not used to them, so I asked the nail tech to keep my nails a very short, sport length. I think she was a little disappointed not to be doing something more glamourous, but I still chose a beautiful pale pink color with silver sparkles and a couple tiny gems by the cuticles. They gave a beautiful feminine feel to my typical bare nails.
