I turned, already done with this pitiful display, but before I could take a step, I felt something clutching at my leg.
“No!”
I looked down, and saw my son was crawling toward me like some desperate dog, his hands clutching at my trousers. I raised an eyebrow at him.
“What do you mean no?”
His grip tightened. “I—I can’t leave Grace, Father. It has to be her. It has to be Grace. Please, do something. Let her become my wife.”
For a moment, I just stared at him, baffled, before I frowned.
