Tables overflowed with food, roasted meats, bread rolls, things that smelled like heaven, and the humans danced, clapped, and toasted like they’d just conquered the world.
Naturally, I made my rounds. The tuxedoed servers were easy targets; one dropped a piece of chicken near my paws, which I took as divine approval. A small human, Xenia and Clay’s offspring, I think, giggled and tried to pet me with sticky fingers. I allowed it. Reputation management, after all.
Dez spotted me halfway through his third glass of champagne and crouched down, grinning. “Look who’s here! The real MVP!” he said, scratching under my chin. “Without you, none of this chaos would’ve happened, huh?”
