Yorick says, sliding his hand back into mine. “Well, now I’m in a bad mood,” Piper says. “Maybe you’re hangry, Hellfire. Let’s go get lunch,” Zach says. “You and your nicknames,” I say, laughing. “Hey, if the nickname fits, who am I to argue. Piper’s got that fiery red hair and a temper to match. I love the passion,” he says, winking at her. “Stop flirting with me,” she says, shaking her head, but her lips are twitching.

“You can’t be serious!” Several elders leaned forward immediately, their faces twisted with disbelief. One of them slammed his staff against the ground. “This is unacceptable!” I glanced toward Percy. He looked completely unbothered. “Is that so?” he said calmly. Another elder stood. His name was Elder Harrick. A tall, narrow-faced man whose greying hair fell neatly over his shoulders. His sharp eyes slid toward me with open contempt. “Her?” His lips curled slightly. “Forgive me, Alpha Percy… but she hardly looks qualified.”

So cold it burned. Piper’s confidence wobbled. Her eyes widened before she caught herself, slapping a bright, practiced smile back onto her face. “I’m Piper…” she hesitated, her brain scrambling for an impressive surname, “Piper Lockwood. I work on the third floor.” Luther stared at her long enough to peel the fake right off her skin. Piper swallowed hard. Her eyes slid to me— And the sweetness evaporated instantly. “This woman is stalking us,” she repeated louder, desperate to regain control of the room.

I felt my insides tighten. “Hector, Baby. I told you that I will give you time to get back to your senses not to break my heart all over again.” Piper whined and it took a lot in me not to march to them and give that piper girl a tight slap that would send her flying. She looked slightly older than Hector but they still complimented each other perfectly.
