My dragon growled, deep enough to shake the ground. A young dragon, thirteen hands high, stood outside my cave. He was just in his cloth, no weapons or shields in his possession. Not a single scar on his body; his dragon was not old in the slightest. Adam must have sent him because no other dragon would dare come here to deliver a message. Not to the monster.

I felt worried instantly because he looked confused, very confused. “What’s wrong? How bad is the break?” I asked him. “His arm healed Chief,” Derek said. “That’s not possible,” I said. “This is his x-ray, there’s no break,” he said. “Impossible, we all saw his arm,” Megan said. “Our healing only kicks in at the age of fourteen,” I said. “And then it progresses until we merge with our dragons.” “Nobody’s healing is this instant,” Derek said. “So he’s okay?” Megan asked.

I collapse on my back, clutching at my leg. The bone is sticking out of my skin and all I feel is a burning pain. I suddenly hear a roar and see my father in his dragon form. He is flying right in front of me, when an arrow hits his wing. He lets out a terrible, pain-filled roar and I watch the dark lines start to spread across his wing. “No, no!” I scream as his wing collapses. His body falls sideways and plummets toward the earth below. Tears stream down my cheeks and I watch as his body grows smaller and smaller until I cannot see it anymore.
