“I agree wholeheartedly, Your Grace.” * * * * Lindsay stood next to Barry in front of a clergyman as he read out of the Book of Common Prayer. Her grandmother had told her she’d be nervous today, but Lindsay wasn’t. Excitement ran through her veins, and she couldn’t stop smiling. Love blossomed inside of her, and each new day with Barry would only be an adventure, she was certain.

The fourth book requires something the previous three did not. She has been writing for fourteen months, since February of the previous year, when the argument sentence arrived. In those fourteen months, she has written forty-seven entries, read them all multiple times, and understood one thing clearly: the fourth book cannot be written from the position of the practitioner describing the practice. It must be written from the position of the person living inside the thing being described. The first book was the practice named. She was outside it enough to describe it.

Kyle walked down the narrow streets of the ancient district of Rome. All around him people were closing shops, retiring for the day. Sunset had always been his favorite time of day, the time he began to feel the strongest. He felt his blood pulsing quicker, felt himself growing stronger with each step. He was so happy to be back in the crowded streets of Rome, especially in this century. These pathetic humans were still hundreds of years away from any type of technology, any type of surveillance. He could tear this place apart with a relaxed and easy heart, and not have to worry about being detected.

I asked, terrified as I looked at the picture. “Look at the picture, Adrian. Tell me what you see.” Thalia grabbed my phone, and then her eyes went wide. “OH. MY. GODDESS.” “What?” I asked. Aiden came behind me and cursed under his breath. “Isaiah, where was this taken?” “Northwest. Another human city. I’ll send you and Adrian the address.” “Can someone fill me in? What do you see in this picture?” Thalia looked at me like I was stupid. “She is holding her stomach, Adrian. She is probably pregnant.”
