The "Dust Room" was a world of ghosts. For three days, the only sound I heard was the scratching of mice and the distant echo of training drills from the courtyard. Kael had been kind, sneaking me extra bread and fresh candles, but he was busy with the border patrols. Left alone, I did exactly what Selene didn't want me to do. I stopped cleaning. "That's because I didn't inhale it, you idiot-" I hear footsteps coming before they even draw close, and the scent of the dust soaks the air. I calculate the steps needed to get to where I am. The second the person releases the dust. I flash over to where Chase is standing and shove him right into the trap. He inhales every bit of it. Chase tries waving it away. He looks at his hands and realises he's doomed. The person is question is Marelyn's sister. When Chase sets off, she runs with him. I have the upper hand now.

Again it appeared someone left in a hurry leaving behind their work. Standing in the middle of clutter and debris his hand brushed a small wooden crate that had been balancing on another, and the disturbance caused a chain reaction of crashes, which sent a dust cloud into the air nearly drowning him. Jimmy waved his hand before his face sending small wisps of dust away, and through the haze, he spotted a small journal in the clutter.

Novel's POV After returning home, the book seemed to pulse on my desk, demanding to be opened. Earlier, I’d told that woman I had a boyfriend, but the truth stung, Alexei hadn’t even asked me out yet. How pathetic of me. “The Book of Outer Land,” I whispered, sliding on my reading glasses. As I opened the cover, a cloud of ancient dust drifted upward, smelling of cedar and forgotten places. “Ouch, cough! Seriously?” I sputtered, waving the dust away. My eyes landed on the dedication page.

I read the words aloud: “The intruder walks among the pack. The bond of blood hides his face.” My throat went dry. “The intruder… he’s one of us.” Dorian’s expression hardened. “Impossible. Everyone was accounted for.” “Not everyone,” I whispered. “Not if someone’s helping him.” Bryan cursed under his breath. “You’re saying there’s a traitor?” I nodded slowly. “Someone who knows how to get to me.” That’s when I heard it—a low rumble, not quite human, not quite animal. My instincts kicked in, and I spun toward the sound, flashlight trembling as it caught the outline of something moving between the rocks.
