Have you ever spent your life thinking about what it means to have everything when you actually have nothing? It’s a strange, hollow question to carry around. Most people think "having nothing" means a lack of money or a roof over your head, but there’s a deeper kind of poverty. It’s the kind where you have your health, a job, and a place to sleep, but you lack the one thing that would make any of it matter. It’s the gap between who you are and who you want to be for someone else.

"It means you no longer have a home." I pulled a remote control from my pocket and pressed it gently. The hotel's massive LED screen flickered once, and the video of their sweet everyday moments disappeared. In its place were page after page of detailed financial statements, bank transaction records, and scanned copies of asset transfer agreements. All eyes, wide with shock, were fixed on the screen. At the bottom of the screen, the bold red text was impossible to ignore. "Total assets under Victor Lyon—Zero. Current liabilities—1.5 billion dollars."

“What do you have?” He hesitated. My jaw tightened. “What. Do. You. Have.” He sighed. “Nothing.” The word hit me like a slap. “…What?” “It’s like he doesn’t exist,” he continued carefully. “No records. No movements. No financial trail. No sightings. It’s as if he stepped off the face of the earth.” Rage exploded in my chest. “Are you telling me,” I hissed, leaning forward, “that after weeks of work, millions spent, and every resource at your disposal…you have nothing?”

But their meaning was. I’m telling you this not to ask for sympathy, but because you can’t understand what comes next without knowing this was the beginning: I started with “nothing.” What no one saw—what their tests couldn’t touch—is that my version of nothing still had weight. It wasn’t an absence. It was a presence, just not one they knew how to measure. They kept looking for a channel. What I had was a reservoir.

I want to have a nice simple life like normal people and I don’t mind if we don’t have anything in our house. I don’t mind if we only have one bed and sheets covering us at night. I don’t mind if I spend the rest of my life with nothing, rather than have everything but sleep in fear every single time I close my eyes. And the point is if I have Lena with me, everything will be perfect, even though if we have nothing in our house, even though if we struggle at night and wondering about what food that we should have the next morning, I would never mind that.

Each extravagance we appreciate in this world has a substitution. You can prevail with regards to nothing in case you're languid. You can't find everything in case you're lethargic. You can't have the cash for each costly brand in case you're static. You can accomplish nothing on the off chance that you keep on communicating your dormant mentality. You have no spot to go all through your daily existence in the event that you lie on one side and simply sit in front of the TV, feeling terrible and moronic. You can't procure triumph if you rely upon others.

It sounds perfect. And terrible. And tempting. And horrifying. "But I came here for help." I struggle to remember why. "I came to find you. To ask something. To get protection. From the Absolute. From dying manipulation. From inevitable doom."

I ended up looking through the window. "Why are you speaking like this Phil? You make it seem as if all our bonds are nothing. How can I have any malicious intentions against you? It's impossible; just relax," Leonardo said. But in my thinking, it's totally impossible that I will relax, and what he just said about not having a malicious intention is also impossible. How can he explain why he wants another power to come to his territory and explore his secrets just like that? For what?
