“And you don’t get to decide who I can hug.”
His fingers tightened slightly around her elbow. "You walked away from my table,” he said through clenched teeth. “And the first thing you do is throw yourself at someone else.”
Her eyes widened in disbelief. “I did not throw myself at anyone.”
“You were smiling.”
The accusation in his voice stunned her more than the anger. “I’m allowed to smile,” she said, her voice shaking now, not from fear but from frustration. “You don’t own that, either.”
His breathing was heavier than usual, chest rising and falling in controlled but strained movements. For a second, something flickered in his eyes. Not just anger, but possessiveness.
