It was Lydia who kept telling him the divorce agreement was just Vera sulking, an empty threat, so out of habit he'd never taken it seriously.
But his Vera had been hurting for a long, long time?
"All right, stop thinking about all that. Look what I've got."
Lydia's voice pulled him back. Smiling, she drew a stamped document from her bag and pushed it toward him.
A divorce decree.
Theo's pupils shrank.
He snatched it up and flipped it open.
His name, Vera's name, the court's embossed seal, the judge's signature. Nothing missing.
