Reta went to the door and stood in front of it. I stood at a corner watching Crystal from a distance as she carefully prepared the poison. She brought a small bowl, and poured in freshwater. She brought a purple liquid in a small bottle from her pocket. She gently poured half of it into the bowl. The color of the water instantly changed to purple, exuding purple smoke from it. “Steph!” Crystal called me out in her stern voice. “Yes?” I walked closer to her. “I need you to fetch me an orange hibiscus flower.”

She nodded toward the edge of the path. I followed her look to a lush patch of brilliant pink blooms. "Yes. That's hibiscus." "It is," she confirmed. "Hibiscus is tropical. It hates the cold. And yet, here it grows, in what looks like a forgotten corner, perfectly healthy even though the night frosts are deep. You know what I name that? I call it magic." "But that isn't a revelation," I said. "They've admitted to using magic. This whole place is steeped in it. Why does this one flower surprise you so much?"

CHAPTER TWO The morning sun rays reflected through the front window of Clara's room to the pink coloured walls that also had a splash of red and blue paints. The breeze was warm and gentle; that the curtains were raised from time to time until it finally hung on the cliff. Isabella gazed through the window and saw the outward gardern that were decorated by borders of bustling rose flowers, purple hibiscus, boungaivillea and others. Women waking with children by their side holding hands, some with babies thrusted on thier breast as she narrowed her eyes. She had now seen those early smiles fled from the face of her elder sister, Clara.

Some floral scents were around more and were easy to pick out, but Hibiscus? I push it wider and step inside. Jesus. I didn't realize how much she liked the color purple. There's literally purple everywhere. The room smells like her—a warm vanilla floral scent. Her heart was beating so fast as she looked at her, but strangely, she found herself relaxing, maybe because she thought she wasn't a dark witch with the way she was also looking around suspiciously. She removed her hand from her mouth, to which the lady also moved back when she realized. "I... I. The plant. I..." She stuttered as she tried to gather her words. The lady just kept looking at her before she looked back at her and said, "If you pick that with your hands. Your hand will surely swell, become red and itchy for about twenty-four hours. And trust me, you won't want to do that." She said, referring to the hibiscus she was about to take. She had also come to get something in the fores

Paul continues, seemingly horrified by the thought of taking me to this king. “I— I don’t want to go. Can’t we—“ “No.” Paul looks wholly defeated. “I’m sorry but we have no choice. So we’re going on a trip.” “Where is this place?” I ask. “The invizibil isles. A small group of islands that humans aren’t aware of. It’s basically a hidden society filled with vampires.” Felix responds and he looks annoyed at having to take me to this place just as much as Paul. I swallow nervously. “When do we leave?” “Tomorrow night,” Paul sighs. Fuck, so I have no choice but to pack.

Meanwhile, Aubrianne was out cold, completely unaware of her surroundings and all that was happening around her.
