Replaced by the Obedient AI Little Brother

Young, a psychologist, and her voice was gentle. "Hello, Dex." I didn't reply. Standing beside her, Mom wrung her hands anxiously. "You have to give him a command, or he won't talk." Dr. Young glanced at Mom. Her brow furrowed. "Please tell me your name," Dr. Young said, phrasing it as a command. "Unit 1314." The tip of Dr. Young's pen paused over her notepad. Frequently Asked Questions

Lately I've been messing around with a few different title generators and the biggest thing I've noticed is that you absolutely cannot use them raw. They're idea-sparkers, not final products. The generic fantasy one spat out 'Sword of the Forgotten King' which is... fine, I guess. It's a noun of noun. But for a grimdark project? That feels too lofty. I ran the same concept through a prompt asking for something 'gritty, personal, with consequences' and got 'The King's Price' which already has more weight to it.

You have to treat them like a weird brainstorming partner. For my cozy mystery, the generator gave me 'A Stitch in Crime' which was cute but too punny. I fed that back in with 'more atmospheric, small-town, autumnal' and it suggested 'The Maplewood Murders' and 'Whispers in the Antique Shop.' Neither are perfect, but the second one gave me the vibe I could work with, maybe 'Shadows in the Antique Shop.' The tool doesn't know your story's soul, so you have to keep nudging it with adjectives, character names, key objects—anything to steer it away from cliché.

Honestly, the most useful function has been to generate a list of twenty awful ones. Seeing what clearly doesn't work often points me toward what does. It's a process of elimination more than creation sometimes.
