Interesting question. Makes me realize how many of her picks use friendship as a plot device rather than the central theme. I'd be curious to see a book club pick that's a straight-up, joyous celebration of female friendship without a mystery or historical trauma backdrop. Maybe that's the next trend.

It must be a nightmare keeping it secret. The number of people who know the pick before announcement day—at the club, the publisher, the printer, the distributor—is probably in the hundreds. One leak could spoil the big reveal and hurt the coordinated marketing blast. Part of the process is managing that secrecy with NDAs and timed embargoes.

The success of the launch depends on that simultaneous 'surprise!' moment across all channels. So the logistical 'how' is as much about information security as it is about literary taste. Building that airtight embargo process is a critical, if unglamorous, part of their operational recipe.
